Air Fryer Halibut With A Creamy Lemon Garlic Sauce
This Air fryer halibut takes less than 15 minutes to make using only a handful of ingredients. It’s the perfect foolproof meal to make on busy weeknights and the fish comes out flaky, moist and so flavorful every time. I am such a huge fan of air frying. I will openly admit that I was very hesitant to buy one, but it has since become a staple appliance in my house that I use almost every day. I love the minimal cleanup required, how fast it heats up (unlike my oven which takes so much time to come to temperature) and how quickly it cooks food. While I traditionally have stuck to cooking vegetables and chicken in my air fryer, I have recently ventured out to air fryer new things such as fish, and the results have been impressive!

What Is Halibut
Halibut is a large, flat cold water fish found mainly in the North Pacific and North Atlantic oceans that can grow to up to 8 feet long and 500 pounds in weight. It is a mild white fish that has a delicate, sweet flavor and firm texture
Can I Use A Different Fish For This Air Fryer Halibut Recipe
If you cannot find halibut, I recommend using another type of white flaky fish such as cod, mahi mahi or tilapia, although the cook time may vary depending on the type of fish and thickness of the filets used.
Ingredients You Need To Make This Air Fryer Halibut
- Mayonnaise: mayonnaise is the main ingredient in the sauce which helps it to coat the fish filets. You can use either store bought or homemade mayonnaise in this easy recipe.
- Dijon mustard: I am a huge fan of dijon mustard, but if you want more of a kick, feel free to add hot mustard, or mustard powder, or for more texture you can use whole grain mustard.
- Lemon: Fresh lemon juice and lemon zest
- Garlic: I love the flavor of fresh garlic but if you prefer a more subtle taste, feel free to use half a teaspoon of garlic powder.
- Paprika: paprika adds a nice touch of color to the sauce. Smoked paprika, sweet paprika or hungarian paprika can all be used.
- Parsley: fresh chopped parsley adds a nice texture to the sauce. Either italian or flat leaf parsley can be used.
- Halibut fillets: feel free to use fresh halibut or frozen fillets (just be sure to leave them to thaw first). When picking out halibut to use for this recipe, look at the thickness of the fish filets and choose ones that are similar.
How To Make This Air Fryer Halibut
- Start by making the sauce for the halibut. In a small bowl stir together the mayonnaise, mustard, lemon juice, lemon zest, garlic, paprika and chopped parsley.
- Pat the fish fillets dry with a paper towel, season halibut with salt and black pepper and then spoon the mayonnaise mixture overtop of each fillet and ensure it coats both the top and sides. Top the fillets with lemon slices and then place them spread out in a single layer in the air fryer basket which has been generously sprayed with cooking spray (I like to use an olive oil spray, but avocado oil spray also works).
- Cook the halibut in the air fryer for 6-8 minutes at 375 degrees f (the cooking time will vary depending on the thickness of the fillets). Once done the halibut filets will be golden brown in color and flaky in texture. If you are unsure whether the fish is cooked through, I recommend using a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the halibut, it should read 130-135 degrees Fahrenheit.
You can find further details in the recipe card below.
Can I Make This Halibut In The Oven?
Absolutely! If you do not have an air fryer, you can alternatively cook this halibut in the oven. Simply line a baking sheet with parchment paper, place the coated fillets on top and cook in a preheated oven at 400 degrees fahrenheit for 12 to 14 minutes until the fish is opaque and flaky.
What To Serve With This Air Fryer Halibut
For a simple meal I like to make a quick salad with tomatoes, cucumber and lettuce while the fish cooks. Other side dishes that go well with this air fry halibut include grilled asparagus, roasted broccoli, green beans or zucchini. While I find that the sauce gives the tender halibut more than enough flavor, you can make a quick tartar sauce to serve alongside it.
What About Leftovers
Store any leftover halibut in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. I recommend reheating the halibut in the microwave, or in the airfryer for 1-2 minutes until just warmed through.

This was fantastic!!
I also added 2 tablespoons of capers to the sauce. Otherwise, kept the recipe as is. We had larger filets (probably 10+ oz.) so cook time had to double in order to get to 130-135 degrees internal. Added some rice pilaf and garlic-buttered steamed broccoli as a side.
The sauce was so good and I loved how easy it was. Great recipe!
Love this recipe! So easy and the fish turned out perfect! Will definitely be making it again.
