Ingredients You Will Need For This Lemon Herb Whipped Ricotta Cheese
- Ricotta cheese: fresh ricotta is a soft, creamy Italian cheese. It has a delicious, mild flavor! You can make your own homemade ricotta, but store-bought ricotta works beautifully, I recommend using whole milk ricotta cheese for the texture. For a more salty and tangy substitute, you could use Feta cheese for a delicious tangy spread. Also, you can make this dairy-free…see below for a great way to modify this recipe.
- Lemon: A combination of fresh lemon juice and a little bit of lemon zest gives the perfect zestiness to this dip.
- Extra-virgin olive oil: I love the earthy yet mild flavor that olive oil gives to this dip, and it is my first choice, but you could also use avocado oil.
- Fresh thyme: Fresh thyme leaves give the perfect herby flavor to this dip. You could add more fresh herbs if you desire, like fresh rosemary, fresh basil, or parsley.
- Kosher Salt and Black Pepper: A simple spice combination is the perfect match for this easy whipped ricotta dip.
- Hot honey: If you have never made your own hot honey, I highly recommend it. This superb recipe is so simple to make. You can also buy store-bought hot honey or alternatively do a drizzle of regular honey if you do not like spice.

Can I Make This Whipped Ricotta Dip In Advance?
This simple recipe can be made a few hours in advance, and it will actually benefit from resting for a bit to allow the flavors of the whipped ricotta cheese to meld together. If you’re preparing it the day before an event, it’s best to store the dip in an airtight container in the fridge. However, it’s a good idea to wait to add the fresh herbs or lemon zest, as they can lose their freshness when mixed in too early. Before serving, add the herbs and zest, give the dip a quick stir, and adjust the seasoning, adding a little extra lemon juice or salt if needed to freshen it up.
What About Leftovers?
This easy appetizer will typically last for 2 to 3 days in the fridge when stored in an airtight container. Since ricotta is a fresh cheese, it’s best to consume the whipped ricotta cheese dip within this timeframe for optimal flavor and texture. Simply stir it back together before serving the next time. Whipped ricotta cheese can separate and may lose some of its light and fluffy texture.
