After making burgers in the air fryer, your life might just be changed for the better! Cooking turkey burgers in the air fryer is great for this time of year when it’s not yet barbecue season, and it’s less messy than cooking them on the stovetop. I love to serve these delicious turkey burgers with a side of french fries or sweet potato fries.

- Turkey burgers are juicier than a chicken burger (which can often be dry) yet healthier than a beef burger.
- With simple ingredients you can find at your local grocery store, these are a no-brainer to make any time of year.
- Enjoy the versatility of these as lettuce wraps or on toasted burger buns, stacked with your favorite toppings.
- You can definitely make this flavorful turkey burger on the outdoor grill or the skillet!
- This delicious burger recipe is perfect if you are gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, Paleo, Keto, Whole30, and SCD.
Ingredients You Will Need
- Ground turkey: I highly recommend fresh lean ground turkey over frozen turkey, as the consistency of frozen is very different and much wetter. If you can not find fresh ground turkey you can use ground chicken or ground beef as an alternative.
- Fresh garlic: I like to use a finely minced fresh garlic clove for this recipe, but you can use pre-minced garlic or garlic powder and adjust accordingly.
- Seasonings: Salt, Black Pepper, and Paprika are all you need for these burgers for just the right amount of spice. You can use smoked paprika or add cayenne pepper for an extra kick.
- Dijon mustard: I love the umami flavor that Dijon mustard gives these burgers. You could also use honey mustard or regular yellow mustard.
- Shallot: I recommend chopping your shallot very, very finely to give it the perfect amount of flavor in every bite. You can use yellow onion or red onion.
- Fresh parsley: Fresh parsley gives these patties a beautiful color and a fresh flavor. You can use curly or Italian parsley, or substitute other fresh herbs like oregano or basil.

Modifications and Tips
- If your burger mixture seems too mushy, add a small amount of bread crumbs or almond flour. You don’t want to add too much though, because it might dry out the burgers.
- You can use frozen turkey burgers as a convenient switch. You don’t need to thaw them. Just pop them in at 375 degrees F and cook for 15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- You can use ground chicken, ground beef, or ground lamb as delicious alternatives.
- Make it spicy by adding cayenne pepper, chili powder or a splash of hot sauce.
Dietary Customizations
- Use plant-based ground meat to make this vegan!
- Leave out the garlic if you have a garlic allergy.

Other Cooking Methods
- Grilling burgers is simple and so tasty. Whether you use a smoker, charcoal grill, or gas grill, you can’t go wrong.
- You can also cook these on the stove on medium heat using your favorite cast iron skillet or non-stick skillet. The key is to preheat your pan really well and add a splash of olive oil so they don’t stick and the flipping process goes smoothly.
- Have an indoor griddle on your stove? That will work perfectly!
Can I Make These Air Fryer Turkey Burgers In Advance
Yes! You can prepare the turkey mixture earlier in the day, form patties, and refrigerate them in an airtight container with pieces of parchment paper between each of the uncooked turkey burgers. This will help the flavors meld better and firm up the meat mixture before cooking. If you’re making the turkey burgers well in advance, you can freeze them. Lay the uncooked patties on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer and freeze for 1-2 hours. Once they’re firm, place patties in a freezer-safe bag or an airtight container.
What About Leftovers
Allow the cooked turkey burgers to cool to room temperature before storing them in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. You can also store them individually in the freezer in plastic wrap. This will prevent them from sticking together and breaking when you’re ready to eat them. Reheat in the air fryer at 375 degrees F for 5-7 minutes, on the stovetop on medium heat until heated through, or in the microwave for a minute or two.
